Telco networks are under sustained attack due to the inherent nature of delivering public connectivity services. As the Australian telco sector has come under increased regulation, the focus has shifted towards ticking boxes rather than practical approaches to security.
This talk covers meaningful approaches to securing fixed line networks from the peering edge to customer access, with examples taken from actual operational experience. It steps back to look at where the risk actually lives and provides practical guidance on where service providers can prioritise their limited security spend and operational time. It also recognises that many smaller networks have less than zero dollars to spend on securing existing infrastructure and are running networks sourced from eBay.
